Emily's Conscious Conception Journey
When I got pregnant and gave birth in 2020 I thought I had prepared but in reality I knew nothing.
After having a traumatic birth and depleted postpartum period I deep dived into everything that would prevent that happening again and while healing I found the idea of conscious conception.
This concept resonated with me because it honours the mothers journey. Instead of focussing on a list of things she has to do before falling pregnant, conscious conception is about connecting with yourself, allowing, surrendering, and receiving.
My son is now three and I’ve started to consciously prepare myself physically, mentally and spiritually to welcome in a new baby. Conscious conception is an intentional and holistic approach because we as mothers deserve to feel our healthiest and most balanced and carry that through to pregnancy, birth and postpartum.
Because a conscious conception journey is individualised it will look different for every women. Be guided by your own intuition and trust that she is right. Below are a few options that I have explored.
Physical
- cycle syncing/tracking to better understand my internal processes
- optimising hormone health with the Seed Cycle
- detoxing and focussing on gut health (coffee enema, infra-red sauna, lymphatic massage)
- blood tests including genetic carrier screening tests (covered by Medicare)
- moving in a way that feels good, connecting and honouring your body
- nutrition e.g. a focus on whole foods, nourishing the body with bone broths, fermented foods etc.
- hydration
- good quality supplements
- body work e.g. Chiropractic, acupuncture
- support from naturopaths and homeopaths
- reducing toxins in my environment e.g. personal care products, cleaning products, water filters
- decluttering and introducing new plants to invite in fresh energy
- self-care rituals e.g. castor oil pack, yoni steaming
Mental
- debriefing past births or trauma
- releasing fears
- mindset work
- building/enhancing positive relationship with partner
- reducing stress
- creating a plan for pregnancy, birth and postpartum with a focus on what I want it to feel like and who could support that. Build your village before you need them.
Spiritual
- connecting with spirit babies
- meditation
- breathwork
- connecting with yourself - becoming aware of yourself and your body and what you need through deepening your intuition
- visualisation
- women’s circle
- womb emersion course/fertility coach
- connection with your divine feminine
- reiki
- sound healing
Conscious conception is a proactive journey that can go for as long as you want. I am learning so much about myself and my needs and I know that in motherhood it’s hard to prioritise and honour yourself but it’s so worth it.
I’m so grateful to my future baby for leading me to this concept and for the growth and connection it has provided.

Conscious Conception: Key Insights and Summary
We hope that Emily's journey and conscious conception as a holistic approach to fertility that resonates deeply with you. For us what stood out is that it honours the entire journey of motherhood. Like Emily said, rather than simply focusing on a checklist of tasks to complete before pregnancy, conscious conception helps you focus on connecting with oneself on physical, mental, and spiritual levels. We just love how the process can help to create a nurturing environment allowing for a deep sense of surrender and openness to the possibility of new life.
It's important mention on a conception journey there can be various aspects to consider, each contributing to overall well-being and fertility. Physical health plays a crucial role, as nourishing the body with proper nutrition and supporting the menstrual cycle can optimise fertility.
This is where seed cycling comes into play as one of the pieces to the puzzle, offering a natural and supportive approach to hormonal balance and reproductive health.
By cycling through the four key seeds—flaxseed, pumpkin seed, sesame seed, and sunflower seed—according to the different phases of your menstrual cycle or the moon phases, you can align with your body's natural rhythms and provide it with the specific nutrients it needs at each stage. These seeds are rich in essential fatty acids and nutrients, which can help regulate hormones and enhance fertility.
Mental and emotional well-being are equally important components of conscious conception. Practices such as mindfulness, meditation, and stress reduction techniques can help cultivate a sense of inner peace and resilience, creating an optimal environment for conception to occur. Additionally, exploring any emotional blocks or limiting beliefs around fertility can be transformative, paving the way for a more positive and empowered journey towards conception.
Lastly, spiritual connection and alignment with one's deepest desires and intentions are integral to conscious conception. This involves tapping into your intuition, connecting with your inner wisdom, and cultivating a sense of trust in the universe's timing. By aligning with your highest purpose and envisioning the life you desire to create, you can co-create the miracle of new life with greater ease and grace.
In essence, conscious conception is a holistic approach that honors the multifaceted nature of fertility, addressing physical, mental, and spiritual aspects of well-being. By nurturing yourself on all levels and incorporating supportive practices like seed cycling, you can embark on this journey with a sense of empowerment, trust, and readiness to welcome new life into your world.
